Chief Marketing and Communications Officer
Joe Cohen serves as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at AXIS (NYSE: AXS), a global provider of specialty insurance and reinsurance with a presence that spans North America, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Asia-Pacific and Bermuda.
Mr. Cohen leads the Company’s global in-house marketing and communications team. He is responsible for guiding brand reputation, marketing and advertising, digital, financial communications, and internal/change management communications. Mr. Cohen is a member of the Company's Strategy Office, Digital Transformation Office, and its Corporate Citizenship Steering Committee.
In 2016, he joined AXIS as the Company’s Chief Communications Officer, where he led global external and internal communications.
Prior to joining AXIS, Mr. Cohen served as SVP of Communications for KIND Healthy Snacks, where he was responsible for guiding the Company’s communications strategy and leading its in-house team. During his two years at KIND, Mr. Cohen helped grow the Company’s brand communications, reputation management, health and wellness advocacy, and issues management functions.
Previously, he spent 15 years at the MWW public relations firm where he rose from an entry-level position to SVP. Mr. Cohen served as a senior member of the agency’s brand marketing and corporate communications practices, where he helped advance department strategy, staff development and drive new business growth while overseeing a number of the Company’s flagship accounts.
He is a past National Chair of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the largest member association for the communications profession with more than 22,000 members across 110 chapters and 10,000 student members across 330 chapters. Mr. Cohen presently serves as President of the PRSA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to advancing diversity and inclusion in the communications industry. He is a Trustee of the Institute of Public Relations and sits on the Communications Advisory Panel for the Museum of American Finance.
Mr. Cohen has received numerous industry honors and awards including the PRWeekGlobal “Power Book” (2017 and 2016),PRWeek“40 Under 40” (2013), "PR Team Leader of the Year" at the PR NewsPR People Awards (2010) and recognition by PRWeekon its list of Ten Rising Stars (2006).
He holds a bachelor's degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. Mr. Cohen is a founding board member of the Newhouse 44, an alumni group dedicated to fostering mentorship relationships between past and present students.
