Chief Communications Officer, Children's of Alabama

T. Garland Stansell, APR, has more than 32 years’ experience in public relations, marketing, health promotion, advocacy and fundraising. At Children’s of Alabama, he is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic public relations and communication programs and initiatives to serve the information and promotional needs of the medical divisions, business units, fundraising and advocacy activities of the organization.

Prior to joining Children’s of Alabama, Stansell served as Vice President of Public Relations and Development for Alabama Goodwill Industries and as Assistant Director of Corporate Communications for BankBoston Mortgage Corporation, Alabama Office.

Stansell has a long tenure of leadership within PRSA, serving on the Board of Directors as Treasurer in 2018, Secretary in 2017 and an at-large member from 2015-2016. He also served as an Assembly Delegate (Alabama Chapter and Health Academy section); Past President and Board Member, PRSA Alabama Chapter; Past PRSA Sections Council Co-Chair and Past National Chair and Executive Committee Member, PRSA Health Academy.

A Birmingham, Alabama native, Stansell received his bachelor’s degree in mass communications, public relations and business from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and a master’s degree in public and private management (MPPM) from Birmingham Southern College. He is active in a number of community and civic organizations including the Epilepsy Foundation of Alabama, Shelby County Arts Council, Shelby County Education Foundation, Alabama Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy and Leadership Shelby County.
