Chief Communications Officer, Children’s of Alabama
Garland Stansell, APR has been with Children’s of Alabama since 1994. He is responsible for strategic communications to serve the information, promotion, education and branding needs of the organization to internal and external audiences. This includes oversight of the public relations, marketing, advertising, audio/visual and web-communications functions.
He has over 28 years of experience in public relations, marketing and development. Prior his role at Children’s, Garland served as Vice President of Development and Communications for Alabama Goodwill Industries and as Assistant Director of Corporate Communications for BancBoston Mortgage Corporation.
Garland is a Birmingham native and received his B.A. in Mass Communications (Public Relations Concentration) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Masters in Public and Private Management from Birmingham Southern College.
He received his Accreditation In Public Relations (APR) in 2010. Garland has been actively on a state and national level in the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) serving as Alabama PRSA chapter president, on the executive committee of the national PRSA Health Academy and as chairman of the PRSA Health Academy. He currently serves on the PRSA National Board of Directors.
